Dr. Westen looked to the most remote part of the Amazon to find the greatest
concentration of magic. He found it in the Yonanobo tribe. Possible
discendents of the Yanomami people in northern Amazonia, this tribe, numbering
less than 100, were as musical as they were threatened. They sang whenever they
were awake. Singing came to them as naturally as eating comes to most. But the
encroachment of others made them eternally
vigilant. They were the protectors of the Wädiba Trees, which grew in a small
cluster on a hillside behind a cliff, inside Yonanobo territory.
